The TFF Forum is almost finished, and should be open for discussions soon.

I have been working on reviving the forum since mid February this year. It has been a long slog, because like all the original software, it left much to be desired in terms of coding style and structure, plus it was so old that a number of key commands in the programming language had been discontinued and replaced, and the syntax of others was different.
Because of the aforementioned problems with the old forum, I choose the route of completely redesigning the whole thing, which has created a much better final product, one that will be more reliable, less quirky, and easier to make improvements to.
I had hoped to have the Forum up and running on September 2, but I am now sure I will miss that. I am currently putting the finishing touches on the membership application system, which is the last thing needed to have a fully functioning forum. Then I need to try everything one last time to make sure it all works before I start moving it to the mirror site, where I will test it with the existing site to be sure it all works together correctly. I have to move around 130 scripts first to the mirror site, and then to the actual web site and make data base changes to both to accommodate the new software. Doing it correctly is more important than doing it quickly.
My current estimate for opening day is September 10 to 14.
When the forum is open, I am going to have a separate Rings Of Power forum for discussing the new TV show, which is set to debut on Amazon Prime, on September 2. That forum will be exclusively for discussing that show. There will, of course, be separate forums for general discussions of Tolkien’s work, fan fiction, and writing, as before.
All Tolkien fans are welcome. The only requirements placed on members are, to be a Tolkien fan, at least 18 years of age, and civilized behavior. Good writing using proper English is always appreciated, but not mandatory. |
